Stormslayer - released today, Thursday 3 September 2009

From this day forward, 3 September shall go down in history as the day on which World War Two began, the day that eBay was founded, the day on which TV presenter Fearne Cotton was born and now, as the day that Stormslayer was unleashed upon the world.

There are dark powers at work in the kingdom of Femphrey. Magic more fearsome than you have ever seen has somehow harnessed the destructive might of Nature.

With time running out, you must uncover the oldest truths about the lore of the elements – only then can you command earth, wind, fire and water and venture into the terrifying eye of the storm.

And you can pick up your copy here.

I picked this up today. My Local Smiths and Waterstones had them on order and they hadn't arrived... I travelled to the next town over (although not on horseback and without the protection of Leather Armour) and they had them right there on the shelf I'm pleased to say. Up close and personal the new covers look really good, much better than I was anticipating and with great detail, it would be nice if there was more room for the original artwork of each book though. The B format works great, Stormslayer feels comfortable to hold and read and it makes you wonder why they weren't always printed at this size! Also the internal layout that Wizard have opted for works very well with the rules at the back of the book. The spines are great too and I have to say they do look 'the business' standing front to back with the rest of my collection!
I haven't gotten far into it yet but the writing is fun and well paced and so far I'm enjoying the adventure immensely. I'm looking forward to battling the elementals and am expecting the fights against them to be huge, exciting set-pieces in true Jon Green style! I have a feeling I won't be disappointed.
And one other thing Jon.... Thank you. THAT particular section is an honour and it means a great deal to someone who's followed the series for about twenty years. Incredible, thank you. I'm looking forward to cracking this one!

Hi Mataeus

Ealing was a big fail today. Due to postal strikes and the bank holiday I've still not received my author copies and neither Smiths or Waterstones in Ealing had the new books either.

I'm glad you're pleased with how the finished product looks and feels. I always think that how a book handles is one of the simply joys of books over e-readers.

I'm glad you appreciate the reference (and spotted it!) - I'm only sorry I spelt your name wrong. I didn't spot it until it had been proofed. Sorry. But there should be a few other FF forum regulars who get a pleasant surprise when they pick up a copy.

Let me know what you think of it when you get to the end.

Have you managed to put it down yet?

Hello,
That's a shame about Ealing too. The postal strike, well there's nothing we can do about that I suppose but surely big-name stores such as Waterstones, which is one chain that I know I can rely on, use their own couriers for delivery? So I was really shocked when they didn't have it in stock. It's pretty much a given, usually, that if I can't find what I'm looking for locally a short journey to Waterstones will prove fruitful. Still, at least I managed to get a copy, albeit their last one! So not a big delivery there then, either. I also picked up books 1 & 3 of the new editions, but Jackson's Citadel of Chaos had already been snapped up.

I haven't had time to get any further into the story, but a likely quiet weekend (my Special Lady is poorly, poor thing) will see me become enthralled in the adventure once again. I love what you've done with the days of the week and how they affect the elementals and the encounters with them, and the fact the likelihood of them being affected is only 2 in 7 is really good too, meaning its not an over-used mechanic. I don't want to say more so I don't spoil it for the other readers of your blog in case they haven't managed to pick up a copy yet! I don't think I've given anything away there that's not enticing and intriguing for potential adventurers anyway ;-)
Don't worry about the reference, it's no big deal! I think it's a great thing. The surname couldn't have been better too, I know in the confines of the adventure it refers to the characters nature as a mage, but it really made my friends laugh as they know me for having a certain charm, hehe!
I'm looking forward to spotting the other references too, I'm sure they'll just be as thrilled with the surprised as I am, no doubt about that.
Looking forward to getting further into this tomorrow!

I think Wizard/Icon should pull some advertising cash and subsidise stores around the country for purpose made cardboard stands, like the ones you'd get for Harry Potter or Beastquest, to have the new books displayed at the front of larger stores nationwide... I think it would do wonders for the series, and as we know the kids are all into 'series collections' these days, and gamebooks are just so much fun and such a unique genre. I'm no marketing guru and it's easy for me to say this and that but I really think it would push the series where it needs to be - right into people's faces!

Going off on a tangent there...
All the best, hope the bookshops / mail / whatever pull their finger out so everyone can start enjoying them!

Waterstone's in Ealing is a dead loss. They didn't have any of my Christmas book 'What is Myrrh Anyway?' at all, ever. &*@!*%&@!

Re: the covers, I think that when you see them arrayed in all their glory next to each other (as on the Gamebooks page of the new and improved FF website) they look fantastic. I love the range of colours. And of course the newly-commissioned artwork will suit the shield hole space very well. (In fact, I quite like the mock-up of NOTN as it stands!)

Oh, and my author copies arrived this morning. So colour me happy.
